HOW TO AVOID THE MOST COMMON DAMAGES TO STONE AND MARBLE:

  • Most chairs will scratch marble and stone surfaces. Apply "Felt Guard" pads to all chair legs once or twice a year.

  • When moving ANY furniture, washer, dryer, etc., do not drag across stone surface.

  • Pianos should never be rolled across stone floors without protective sheeting under wheels. Excessive weight can crack, scratch or fracture stone.

  • If a "spot" is found in a stone surface, NEVER use sandpaper or rough steel wool to remove. Call a professional for advice or service.

  • Use caution on countertops. Perfumes, aftershave, nail polish, hair dyes, etc. can damage marble and stone. Use coasters and never set glasses with soft drinks, alcohol, juice, etc. directly on stone surface. Always use a cutting board for meats, fruit, breads, etc. (Clean up spills immediately).

  • A common area for wear marks is in front of sinks. The use of a small rug can delay refinishing.

  • Door mats placed at entrances to your home will reduce the wear on stone flooring and make cleaning easier.

  • If you are not sure if a cleaner chemical is safe for marble or stone DO NOT USE IT.

  • Rollerblades, skateboards, wagons, etc. can damage marble and stone surfaces.

  • Damage to walls and floor in marble and stone showers is very common. NEVER use quick fix shower sprays that contain bleach, chlorine, acid, etc. read label to see if approved for marble use or contains the words NEUTRAL cleaner on the label. Check grout joints and caulking monthly to avoid costly repairs in the future. Call for service if holes or cracks appear.

  • Live potted plants should always have protective coasters to catch excess water and moisture. Never slide or drag pots across stone.

  • Spills at the refrigerator are very common. Use caution when placing or removing items.

  • ALWAYS insist workmen use protective floor covering in work areas. Tool boxes, ladders, etc. will damage marble and stone.
